Oh, restless heart

12/19/2021

Oh, restless heart, will you but quiet for a moment

It is hard to hear beyond your murmurs and complaints

The increased rush, gush, and burns you experience

In response to every need, desire, and want

Makes it difficult to assess the source, whether sincere or driven by selfish ambition.

Restless heart, why do you fret like so?

What is that which you desire and are impatient to receive?

What are you discontent over and want to see changed?

What do you mourn over and can no longer take?

I know.

I know, the world is not as you once perceived

Neither are you, you who once was desperately wicked.

Oh, my restless heart of flesh and no longer of stone

Ever palpitating in search for perpetual rest and peace

Hide in the Lord.

Cast your cares, burdens, and anxieties upon Him

For He cares for you

Oh restless heart, grow in grace and patience

Do not be overtaken by the severity of the wind and by the weight of the clouds that threaten to fall

Nor be carried away by vanity into indifference

Indeed you must strive but your restlessness must not be on account of it

Call on the Great Physician and follow His prescription for rest

Quiet your murmurs by directing those complaints into prayer

Oh restless heart, seek the Lord, find Him, and never let Him go

And then you'll become a heart at rest in Him

Oh heart at rest, glorify the Lord and rejoice in Him.

Rejoice in Him, I say!

And again, rejoice!
